Hi, I’m Adam DeSanctis with the Mortgage Minute, the latest news from the Mortgage Bankers Association. Last week, President Trump signed an executive order aimed at lowering the cost of homeownership and mortgages and promoting innovation across the housing market. The order directs FHFA to take several steps to reduce refinancing costs, including expanding title insurance waiver options, streamlining documentation requirements, and reducing certain fees on eligible refinances. It also calls for a pilot program to identify borrowers who may qualify to cancel mortgage insurance and establishes a task force focused on improving the quality and affordability of manufactured housing. It’s important to note that the terms of the EO are not self-executing and require the FHFA director to evaluate and implement the changes in a manner that ensures that they are in the best interest of the GSEs and FHFA and the American public, and also consistent with financial safety and soundness. MBA is reviewing the details and will work with the administration, FHFA, and industry stakeholders to help ensure these measures deliver meaningful benefits for consumers in the broader housing market. That’s it for this week. Thank you for listening.
